I love learning and books are a fantastic way to do that. To help you decide if a sewing book is for you I have started to create a video series on YouTube featuring book reviews on some of my favourite books. The first review in the series is on the book 9 Heads by Nancy Riegelman. It is a fantastic book that helps you to learn how to draw the human form. It also features lessons and tips for drawing clothing, fabrics and flat pattern drawings. See the video below to learn more.
I co-host an internet sewing show called That Sewing Blab every Tuesday night. In episode 44 we reviewed our favourite sewing books. We were lucky to have some of the most talented sewist and bloggers I know come on the show to talk about their favourite books. The show was such a hit with viewers that I decided to write three supporting posts. In the first of the series of blog posts, I attached the replay of the live video and listed all the books that were mentioned in the show. Part two was an overview of my favourite books and a list of further resources. The photo above is an image from that post showing some of my favourite design and illustration texts. Part three, this post, is the first of a series of video book reviews.
I hope you enjoy this book review of Nancy Riegelman’s book 9 Heads. In my opinion, it is a must-have text for anyone wanting to learn how to draw the figure or improve their fashion illustrations or flat drawings.
I have created lots of live videos that can be found here on the blog and on my YouTube Channel but this is only my second foray into creating and editing recorded video. It takes a lot longer to edit a video than I had imagined. There are still lots of things I could improve but I am proud of the end result. I would love to know what you think of the video. Your input will help me make future videos better. Thank you.
