Whoa. What a month. I completed more posts than my average, changed how it I did my fashion illustrations and style of the images on my posts, had great guests on That Sewing Blab and a live demonstration. In amongst this (and a lot more changes you will see soon on the website), I made the denim jacket for this month’s design challenge.
Tooting my own Horn
Okay, I know it might not be cool to toot your own horn, but I love this jacket. I will be wearing it all around town until the snow comes at least. It is very comfortable, and the dark colour of the jean makes it tidy looking as well. Comfortable, stylish and durable it ticks all the boxes for me.
I wasn’t sure if I would like the swirly motif on the shoulder. I felt I needed to personalize the design and now that it is complete I think it elevates the design. I am looking forward to watching it fray further.
Living on the Edge
For this month’s photo shoot, we went out to the Eagle’s Nest Lookout. It has a lovely view, but for someone who loves views from a safe perch, it was a little unnerving. I am very thankful for my fabulous photographer Arthur who managed to get great shots in low lighting and a higher altitude. The teen photographer’s assistant was very helpful too. Thanks, team!
More Denim to Come
Even though this post marks the end of this month’s denim challenge in a round-about way, there will be more denim next month. Read October’s design brief to learn more.
I do not normally like hoods. They are more functional than stylish. But I love the hood on this jacket. It is loose and well shaped. I can definitely recommend the hood draft in Winfred Aldrich’s book.
I would love to know what you think of this month’s winning design in the comments below or on social media. Do you like the hooded denim jacket or do you think the denim kimono in Design Two would have been better?
Periscope on Location
The very short video below is far too geeky for words but it does offer good views of the jacket and the location. Please try to forget my crazy donkey laugh if you can. What can I say I was having a great time.
