Hello Yellow
What a fantastic month. Looking at the photos from this month’s photo shoot I cannot help but think of how far we have come. Everything from photography, photo editing, and even the garments themselves have improved. As you can guess, one year into blogging and I am feeling as bright and happy as these photos. I know I have a long way to go until I hit half my goals for the blog, but I am enjoying the ride and looking forward to the challenges ahead!
I love this jacket. It presented me with a few challenges, which I mentioned in my earlier patternmaking post, but I find myself at the end smarter and with a lovely jacket. Bonus! Before I started, I was worried about the bulk on the swirl side of the jacket and finishing the edges. I will still tweak a few little things on my next Swirl jacket, like lowering the back neck a couple of centimeters, and adding one more snap closure to prevent pull lines on the jacket. I would also love to try making the jacket with the colours swapped. I would love to hear how you would alter the jacket in the comments below.
I have to thank my fabulous photographer Arthur Pengelly. He has been dragged along on this journey with me, but he is always patient with his introverted model. We have been learning as we go, from that first photo shoot at Massey University to our most recent, it has been exciting to see the progress. Thanks Arthur.
A special thank you to everyone who tunes into Periscope live to help me choose which photos would look the best on the blog. And thanks to all those who watched the replay and contacted me to add your two cents worth too! Your input as always helps to make the whole process more fun.
All of your photos were very nice and I am sure a ton of work went into creating that beautiful jacket! Great work to both you and Arthur!
Thanks, Myra. I love the jacket and I had a lot of fun making it. I cannot wait for next month’s challenge-Denim!!!!!
Such a statement piece! You did a marvelous job Dawn! The second photo above is my favorite.
Faye your kind words make me eager to start the next challenge! I love the jacket, and once it gets a little cooler, I’ll wear it all the time. Thanks again, Faye.
Looking good, Dawn! I love this unique jacket. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Thanks, Robin. I miss seeing you guys at classes. Next month I will be working with denim. I cannot think of a better fabric for Autumn.
Love the jacket and the super cute photos! You guys make a fab team!!!
Thanks, Dani! I think we are improving each month. I am looking forward to getting back behind the camera, though.
Wow!!!! what an awesome looking jacket. The photography and your fashion poses are spot on. You are so talented! I learned how to sew when I was in middle school and have been for several years since. I haven’t stepped out to learn how to pattern design. I can mix and match different pattern pieces, however, nothing to the extent of your work. What a great talent you have!
Thank you, Patricia. Your lovely comment made my day. I think I learn something new with every pattern I make. I love the challenge of patternmaking. It sounds like you are well on your way to learning more too. Do you blog about your creations? I would love to see some of your garments. Thanks again for your comment!
I don’t blog, but I do have a blog page. I am kind of shy about blogging even though I’ve thought about it. I really don’t know where to start actually. I think that I need to take a class to learn how as I would like to show some of my creations. You and other bloggers are certainly my inspiration! Who knows one day soon I may be introducing myself to the sewing blog world in 2017!
Patricia,
You should go for it. I was very nervous before I started blogging too. But I did it and found that the confidence I gained from giving it a go led me to trying Periscope. My first broadcast was hilarious. Seriously! I was soooo nervous. But again I gained more confidence from the experience and now I co-host an internet show, That Sewing Blab. Going outside of your comfort zone is terrifying BUT is a fabulous way to grow and learn what you love. Feel free to e-mail me (on the contact page of this blog) if you ever need a cheerleader or some advice about blogging. I am not an expert but I would love to help.
I would also love to see your creations!
