Voting for Your Favourite Design in April’s Fashion Design Challenge
I am more excited about this design challenge than any other in the past. As an introvert, I find conferences intimidating and draining. I know how valuable they are for my professional development and networking with old and new friends, but they have in the past made me very nervous. As I mentioned in my design brief, I feel this month’s BConnected Conference will be different. I am more confident from live streaming activities on Blab and Periscope, and I will be feeling put together and prepared in an outfit I am designing. Last year’s BConnected Conference was an extremely valuable experience for me, but I feel I let my nerves prevent me from getting all I could from the conference. Not this year! This year I am wiser and better prepared. Not to mention I will be dressed for success. I cannot wait to see which design reader’s of this blog and viewers on Periscope will choose for me to make. I have a tight deadline, but I cannot wait to get started.
Design Process
I started off drawing lot of quick sketches of the separate pieces. As the bottom half of the photo above shows, I roughly sketched many pages of whatever came to mind. I then reviewed all these designs I then tried to pair the ones I liked into outfits that would be appropriate for me to wear to the BConnected Conference (top row in the image above). I tried to keep in mind the nature of the fabrics I was using and how they would want to behave on the body.
Periscope Community Help
I narrowed down the designs to the two above and went on Periscope to get feedback from the fabulous people who watch my live broadcasts. This is one of my favourite part of the process as I can tap into others opinions and hear their suggestions. It seemed most people liked design 1. I found myself feeling disappointed that design 1 seemed to be more popular. I examined why I felt like this after the broadcast and came to the realization that I was excited about the possibility of wear design one but not design 2. I recognized that there was always something that bothered me about the skirt. I went back to my original sketches determined to revise the first design so that I would be just as excited to wear design one as design 2. You can see by looking at the image of Design 1 at the top of the page that I have done just that. I love the new altered line. Now the volume on the skirt is at the hem instead of at the hip. I feel it now utilizes the stripe as well as design 2 now. This is just another example of how amazing live streaming platforms like Blab, SnapChat and Periscope can be to have a conversation with others. I love how interactive it is. I like the changes I made to design 1 and would love to hear your opinion in the comments below or in my next Periscope broadcast.

AND THE WINNER IS….
Design 1 won the voting in this month’s design challenge. Voting was done here on the website, live on Periscope, and on Social Media. Design 1 had triple the number of votes. I would particularly like to thank the fabulous Periscopers from the Pericrafter Facebook group for their support. It was interesting this month in that on some platforms Design 1 was dominating while on other platforms, Design 2 ran away with the most votes. I cannot wait to see if there is a pattern over the next few votes. I love the whole voting process as it is fascinating to see what happens when I put the vote in your hands.
While both are beautiful, I love design number 2. Just love the lines and the over all look! I can’t wait to see you in your outfit at BConnected, Dawn!
Thanks, Sandy. I am really looking forward to the BConnected Conference this year. I learned a lot last year that has helped me immensely during my first year of writing my blog. This year I know it will be even better. I am looking forward to learning more about blogging and meeting new people. This outfit will help me feel my best on the day. If nothing else with the bright colour no one will accidently bump into me. Thanks again for voting Sandy!
Dawn
I’ll echo Sandy – they are both beautiful. But I vote for #1. I just love bigger skirts.
Looking forward to seeing which one wins at the conference!
Thanks for voting Louise. Design 1 won impressively in the end. I think A-line skirts suit me best so I am looking forward to wearing the outfit at the BConnected Conference. It is only a couple of weeks away now. I better get sewing. See you there.
It’s really hard for me to choose, they both are fabulous! However, I’m leaning towards #1. I love a-line skirts, they are so flattering, and I love the cropped jacket because it’s right on trend. Can’t wait to see what you pick – either one, you’ll look beautiful.
Thanks, Emily! Design 1 won in the end. The voting was close on my site but on Periscope, and Facebook design 1 was the strong winner. I will see you in my A-line skirt and cropped jacket at the BConnected Conference. I am looking forward to it. Thanks again for commenting.
