Three of Andrea’s fabulous garments from her website www.sewtofit.com
Sew to Fit
Fit is so important when making your own clothing. We are not all the same size or shape. This can be all too apparent when you are trying on ready-to-wear clothing. Being a pear-shaped woman I have to take in at the waist almost every pair of pants I have bought off the rack. You can start to feel like the problem is with your body and not the garments. Often people overlook fitting issues when sewing their own clothing because they might not know how, or have the confidence, to change the garment to fit their body. But if a garment is ill fitting it can be the first thing you notice. We had the pleasure of interviewing Andrea from www.sewtofit.com on last week’s That Sewing Blab.
Episode Three of That Sewing Blab
Wow, this week’s show was fantastic. We had few technical issues, another great person to interview and lots of audience participation. Interviewing Andrea for the third episode was informative and a lot of fun. I first saw Andrea when she was live streaming on Periscope and became an instant fan. She is the whole package: an expert sewist, patternmaker, fit specialist, a teacher, and as authentic as people come in the on-line world.

Photos from Andrea’s blog. She not only shows images of the final garments but often shows you how she made them.
Want to Learn More About Fit?
Andrea has a passion for sewing that comes through on her blog. She is skilled with the technical side and has a flare for the creative as well. She writes about her projects on her blog and often has fit-along videoes on her YouTube channel. I love how she uses every platform she is on cohesively. They work together to ensure you understand each project she is working on.
Things I Learned About Andrea During That Sewing Blab
As Andrea said during the broadcast, “social media is just an extension of who I am not who I am.” You would think with her blog, YouTube channel and live streaming on Periscope that she would have little time for anything else. In the Blab, we learned that she is busy offline as well teaching people to sew. One of the projects closest to her heart is teaching young ladies who lack a solid home life to learn the valuable skill of sewing. Watch the above Blab to see more of Andrea’s interview.

As it says on her website, Andrea wants to help you “fit your body, your taste, and your style.” Check out her website to see more of her fabulous designs and her tips and tricks for fitting garments.

Thanks again Andrea for coming on That Sewing Blab. You were amazing!
Dawn, Thanks for such a wonderful interview and writeup about my blog and channels. As much as I enjoy teaching.
It was fabulous having you on That Sewing Blab. You are such a talented woman. I think anyone who sews their own clothes should check you out on your Sew to Fit web page, YouTube channel, Periscope broadcasts and your Sew-to-Fit Fridays. In a world of fast fashion where clothing is made to fit the average, being able to alter patterns to make them fit our individual bodies is empowering. It is a fantastic skill and I am thrilled you share your gifts with all of us.
Keep being you Andrea!
