I thought this month I would introduce a new post: a report card. Starting this blog was for three main reasons; to cull at the mountain of fabric and trims I have stashed in my sewing room, to ensure I am creative every month, and to learn more about an area that I love.
I will try to be objective so that I can learn from what was successful and what needs improvement.
I thought it would be helpful to explain why I gave myself each mark.
Design: Would have given myself an A as I love this design, but my choice of lining fabric brought the design down.
Illustration: It is not like I did not like the illustrations it is just that I repurposed them. Sure I altered the drawings but I think I should push myself to create an entirely new design each month.
Patternmaking: I gave myself a high mark as it turned out exactly as I had imagined. I took a risk in the patternmaking, and it paid off.
Construction: It felt like I took forever to cut out the front piece out. Read the construction post to see why. In my embroidery post, I mention a few of the difficulties I had with filling in the flower on the back of the garment. The slouchy inner layer could have been sewn down (see photo above.)
Photography: We did not do a location shoot this month as I wanted the ways you could wear the garment to be the focus and not the background. I think this was achieved. I tried a few new effects on the photos and I think the photo of Niki looking up and laughing turned out well.
Brief Met: The brief required that I create two garments; one for the challenge and one as a giveaway for a lucky subscriber. It was to be size 12, made of a fabric with stretch, and be a lightweight cover-up. I think I did all these things very well. I did not give myself an A though as I was late on a few of the deadlines I set due to a persistent cold. Yup, I am a wimp when I am sick.
Overall Grade: I think the extra Periscope broadcasts I did would have bumped my grade up but I cannot ignore the missed deadlines so I marked myself harder.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Do you think I was too harsh or too easy on myself? Do you have any suggestions or comments about this month’s blog? I would love to hear them. You can contact me through the contact page, in the comments, on Facebook, Twitter or during a Periscope broadcast. I have been filming them every Monday night. Thank you for another great month.
